Foreshore Lilies Ladies Cricket Club - 2011 Annual Review

2011 season started as a challenging year for the Lilies, as a few members were unable to join us due to various family and other sporting commitments.  We successfully recruited new members by placing posters in every senior school and we promoted ourselves at the "Run/Walk for Life" in June and at various cricket games during the ICC Championships.

We have always set out to be ambassadors, not just for the game of women's cricket, but also to provide a friendly, welcoming environment where women and girls are encouraged to try out and take part in sport.

We are delighted that another junior girl has joined the club and one of our younger boys, who trained with us was selected to play age-group cricket for the Island.  Another member was invited to join an evening league team off the back of the training opportunities provided by the club.  We have also had two members of the same family, Michele and Jack Leerson, make their Island debuts and win caps for Jersey alongside three other Lilies who were selected to represent theIslandagainst the French national team.

We have been fortunate this year to receive coaching throughout the summer which has seen a direct improvement on our performance. The club was delighted that a number of Lilies were part of the Island training squad and four members were selected for the inaugural Jersey Women's Cricket team, which went on to play (and win) in France.

Whilst it is important to try and be competitive in our sport, we are an inclusive club where "taking part" is as important as the result and we work hard to choose teams that reflect commitment to the club as well as personal performance.  This will be demonstrated throughout the winter season as the club has entered the Winter League 2011/2012 and we are determined to have a lot of fun against more experienced men's teams with the aim of continuing to select all club members who wish to play.

In the past, the club has struggled for membership numbers for much of the season but our team spirit is as strong as ever and planning for 2012 is already in full swing.  A UK tour is planned for the end of June to play against cricket team from Reigate and Epsom which will be a great focus and opportunity for all our club members.

On behalf of the Lilies Ladies cricket club we would like to thank everyone at Foreshore for their continued support.

Marcia Lee, Chair and Joe Lucas, Vice-Chair
