Jersey's eGaming strategy receives significant boost with Playtech licence application

Jersey Enterprise is pleased to confirm that Playtech, one of the world's leading eGaming software and content specialists, has applied to the Jersey Gambling Commission (JGC) for a Remote Gambling licence under authority granted by the Remote Gambling (Jersey) Regulations 2008.

The application is a significant step forward for theIsland's eGaming strategy and comes following many months of talks between Jersey Enterprise, the JGC, and Playtech.  This included meetings with Playtech's Chief Executive Mor Weizer during Jersey's business delegation visit to Israel in May 2011.

Commenting on the news Economic Development Minister Alan Maclean said "I see this licence application from a market leader like Playtech as a stamp of approval for Jersey's new eGaming industry.  It demonstrates how we can leverage Jersey's long-standing reputation for excellent regulation; infrastructure and world class professional services by developing exciting new opportunities for our economy from the lucrative global eGaming market."

Mor Weizer, Playtech's Chief Executive says: "We are delighted to be seeking an operating licence in Jersey.  We met last year with the Jersey authorities in Israel who convinced us of the merits of the new licencing regime and their commitment to the sector. With many of our existing licencees having operations in the Channel Islands it makes good sense for us to seek a licence in Jersey to support our customers from a regulated jurisdiction with a first class infrastructure."

The Jersey Gambling Commission will now work with Playtech to ensure that all relevant compliance and due diligence provisions of the Regulations are complied with.
