Our name

The name Foreshore was not arrived at by accident and the following should explain why the name is such a perfect fit.

The foreshore is that part of the beach that is hidden and then disclosed by the tide. We know it’s there but we can’t always see it. It is neither land nor sea and has an ’other worldly’ quality, which we think likens it to another ’virtual entity’ - the internet.

The word foreshore evokes associations with ’offshore’, which is where we are located and is also one of its key selling points/differentiators in the market in which we operate.

On another level, the word, when broken down, works perfectly for us.

Fore – is defined in the dictionary as: ...at or near the front, ...before in time or rank, and more than adequately suggests that we are at the ’forefront’ of technology, in our field and of course, well ahead of the competition.

Shore – apart from the obvious definitions relating to the coast, is also defined as: to augment, brace, hold, support, reinforce and strengthen. All words which conjure up the perfect image for both the datacentre itself and the nature of the services we offer to our customers.

Joined together to make Foreshore, they portray some of the most important aspects of what the organisation is all about.

Being good Jersey people, we also saw the similarity between our name and the saying ’for sure’. In fact at launch, we were the subject of the Jersey Evening Post’s cartoon of the week, when local artist Al Thomas used that play on words to speculate about the new web farm. We actually commissioned Al to produce more cartoons for us and they were our first ever local advertisements.
